The evil of buying more

Shopping, just like comfort eating, is a psychological syndrome. We are tempted to buy more when we do not reflect on what we already have and how much we have put that into use. It is usually nothing more than something "that would be nice to have" in your collection but the thought of how much we will be using it or how much we will need it never crosses our mind. We totally ignore the fact that we have bought countless other items that have hardly been used or in many cases hardly been used even once. And we forget that we bought those items under the same assumptions and temptations which we have for something we are about to buy.

Things are not meant to be stored and admired. They are meant to be used to maximum. So a time will come when you will no longer have any space left to store new stuff and will eventually need to get rid of your previous items. The same will happen to your new items too. Your cabinets, drawers and whatever storage you have will fill up and suddenly you realise that you are a serial hoarder and over the years you have collected stuff that you would hardly ever use.

So buy what you really need and buy a good quality one. Use it and look after it well. Clean it, repair it, oil it and whatever else care it needs to keep functioning.  And when it is no longer usable, dispose it.

Stay away from bargains and sales and randomly browsing Ebay and Amazon Black Fridays etc. If you really need something and really will use it then buy it even if it is at full price. The latter will cost you much less overall.
